During her tenure she has held several leadership roles at Deloitte including National Financial Services Lead, Managing Director for Montreal Consulting and Head of National Strategy & Operations. Adelaide is currently the Analytics Leader for Deloitte Consulting and assists numerous clients with their big data and analytics transformations. Adelaide is a certified Board Director.

Ahmad Nassri

Director @ The Open API Initiative (OAI), Linux Foundation

Bio: Ahmad is an advocate of all things open-source and a developer tooling enthusiast. Currently leading a global team as the VP of Engineering at Mashape, a San Francisco based startup, focused on powering API driven software, with a suite of products built to help developers deliver better APIs & Microservices. In his spare time, Ahmad blogs on Technology & Leadership, mentors early stage startups, and builds open-source projects used by thousands of developers world wide. Prior to joining Mashape, Ahmad lead large development teams across various industries in delivering global scale projects. Most recently as the Development Manager of Digital Operations at the CBC where he oversaw the launch of two Digital Olympics and many digital projects accessed by millions of Canadians at home and overseas. Ahmad started an initiative to redefine Software Development Methodologies, dubbed the “Open Development Methodology” and is currently traveling around the world speaking at conferences to evangelize and fine-tune this new approach to software development

Andrew Graham

Co-Founder & CEO, Borrowell

Bio: Andrew is co-founder and CEO of Borrowell, a Canadian marketplace lending platform serving consumers with good credit. He leads a dynamic team dedicated to bringing better rates and service to borrowers as well as attractive returns to investors. Investors include Power Financial Corporation and Equitable Bank. Before founding Borrowell, Andrew led the insurance business at PC Financial. He has also held roles in corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions with the Weston group. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MA in economics from the University of Edinburgh.

Ayesha Zaka

Bio: Ayesha Zaka is part of the WW Technical Sales team focusing on Hadoop, Spark, Streams. She brings 5 years of experience from the Canada Software Lab to her current role in Technical sales. She is passionate about client success and has worked closely with technical sales teams worldwide to ensure successful delivery of solutions that helped drive client value. Responsible for providing customers with architectural and technical guidance on how to leverage IBM’s portfolio of hybrid, and open analytics tools to grow their business

Bala Gopalakrishnan

VP Innovations, Analytics and Technology Architecture , Weather Network

Bio: Bala is currently leading Innovation, Technology Architecture, and Big Data Analytics for Pelmorex’s multi-platform weather information services, the parent company of The Weather Network/MeteoMedia. The Weather Network/MétéoMédia are Canada's most popular weather information websites and mobile/ Interactive TV applications, as well as the most frequently watched specialty television networks . In addition, Pelmorex owns and operates El Tiempo Previsto, S.L.U., Spain's leading multi-platform weather information provider. Bala has a Masters of Science in Computer Engineering from The University of Alabama, and an MBA from Ivey Business School. Prior to joining Pelmorex, Bala lead engineering and software teams at Johnson Controls (Fortune 100) and Eutech Cybernetics which was rated by Gartner as one of the cool companies in smart city solutions.

Carolyn Rollins

Director of Marketing , Dell

Bio: Carolyn Rollins joined Dell in 2006 and currently leads the Dell US Medium Business and Canada Commercial Marketing Organizations running B2B for Small Business to Large Business both Public and Commercial in Canada and Medium Business in North America. She is responsible for driving market leadership, demand generation, strategic programs and social innovation for Dell across all lines of business: end-user and enterprise solutions, software and services. Her key priorities are delivering business impacts and meaningful solutions for Dell customers and she is passionate about looking at creative new ways to work with them. Prior to joining Dell, Carolyn worked for 22 years at Datasym, a retail solutions hardware and software development company. She held the role of Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Bio: By day, Chris is a Financial Analyst working with entrepreneurs and angel investors on their personal financial affairs. By night, Chris is an active member of the Toronto tech start-up community. Chris Co-founded Multiplicity, a not-for-profit group supporting education and thought leadership in the Toronto Start-up community. Chris is also a two-time mentor at Techstars Startup Next Pre-Accelerator program, the #1 startup pre-acceleration program in the world. Prior to co-founding Multiplicity, Chris acted as the Group Manager of the Ryerson Angel Network where he was responsible for deal-flow generation and initial screening. Chris studied Finance at Ryerson University, and has obtained his Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designations, he is also a CAIA Canada Chapter Executive based in Toronto. Chris has completed the Level 1 of the Chartered Financial Analyst program.

Chul Lee

Head of Data Engineering & Science, Under Armour

Bio: As head of the data team (data engineering, data science, and data infrastructure) at Under Armour Connected Fitness, Chul is responsible for the development of data products for MyFitnessPal, MapMyFitness, EndoMondo and UA Record and its overall data governance. He is also leading several next generation AI and big data initiatives in the fields of health & fitness in conjunction with partners like IBM and SAP. He joined Under Armour via MyFitnessPal's acquisition in 2015. Prior to MyFitnessPal, Chul managed a team at LinkedIn that developed and operated several relevance engines for LinkedIn's content products like LinkedIn Pulse, LinkedIn Content Emails, Channels and LinkedIn's Publishing Platform. He also co-founded a social news startup in Toronto that delivered a personalized news experience by aggregating the entire blogosphere and news sites with the combination of millions of social media signals. Chul holds Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Toronto. He also co-authored many patents and papers that appeared in top-tier peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings

Claude Théoret

Founder & CEO, Nexalogy

Bio: Claude G. Théorêt is an astrophysicist with expertise in the management of innovation. One of the founding members of McGill University’s astronomy department, Claude was ranked first in the astronomy and astrophysics postdoctoral fellowship competition in Québec. He conducted his postdoctoral research at the Collège de France as a member of the prestigious HESS Collaboration. After teaching as a professor of physics and statistics at the American University in Paris, Claude focused his analytical expertise on Co-Word Analysis, Actor Network Theory and their practical applications. Claude has co-authored two papers in Nature, one in Science and his work on the mapping of the Nanotechnology community has been published twice.

Clinton Larson

Bio: As Vice President of CRM and Retention, Clinton leads HBO’s data-driven marketing efforts designed to deliver truly meaningful customer experiences throughout the HBO customer lifecycle. By better understanding and anticipating customer needs and preferences, and then responding to them with highly targeted and personalized action, Clinton’s focus is on driving customer conversion, retention and reconnect performance through one-to-one marketing best practices. Clinton’s depth of experience comes from his extensive background leading the data, analytics and CRM functions across a wide array of industries; including at major banks, telecommunications, e-commerce, insurance, media and publishing companies; as well as serving as a consultant to to large scale enterprises in the USA, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. He is also the founder of 2 successful data-driven technology start-ups. Clinton has a degree in business from the University of Technology in Sydney.

David Stewart

Bio: For more than 20 years, David Stewart’s career has spanned every industry vertical in leveraging data analytics to solve complex business problems, with a deep experience in pattern detection and financial crime analytics. He is sought after for his expertise taking big data and applying analytic techniques to assist C-suite executives understand and determine strategic and operational objectives around customer segmentation, financial crime risk, assets optimization and cost reduction. By identifying patterns, David and his team advise corporations on how improvements can be made, cost-savings can be implemented and opportunities can be leveraged using high-tech technology and methodologies. As a leader of Deloitte’s Analytic Forensic Technology practice in Canada, he is the Chief Operating Officer for Deloitte Analytics in Canada. Mr. Stewart overseas Deloitte's National Discovery & Analytic Centre in Toronto which is a centre of excellence in providing computer forensic, eDiscovery and data analytics services to clients.

Don Penfold

President, RSI

Bio: Don Penfold is a co-founder of RSI Research Solutions Inc. With over 18 years of experience working at or closely with major data providers globally, Don has had a hand in developing many of the data and market analysis tools available today. At RSI, Don has formed partnerships with both quantitative and qualitative market analysts across North America to provide the best of both worlds to their clients. Today, RSI’s growing team supplies market analysis tools (software & data), projects, and consulting services to international businesses who are focused on target marketing and real estate site selection. “In 2002 I saw a problem in the data industry: Companies offered one product line, and that one product didn’t fit everyone’s needs. I created Research Solutions Inc to fix that problem. I wanted to create choice. I wanted to provide a high level of service that was lacking in the data world. Dr Ann Cavoukian

Executive Director, Privacy & Big Data Institute RYERSON

Bio: Dr. Ann Cavoukian is recognized as one of the world’s leading privacy experts. She is presently the Executive Director of the Privacy and Big Data Institute at Ryerson University. Appointed as the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario, Canada in 1997, Dr. Cavoukian served an unprecedented three terms as Commissioner. There she created Privacy by Design, a framework that seeks to proactively embed privacy into the design specifications of information technologies, networked infrastructure and business practices, thereby achieving the strongest protection possible. In October 2010, regulators at the International Conference of Data Protection Authorities and Privacy Commissioners unanimously passed a Resolution recognizing Privacy by Design as an essential component of fundamental privacy protection. Since then, PbD has been translated into 37 languages. Dr. Cavoukian’s expertise has been recognized in many ways. She was: ranked among the top 25 Women of Influence, recognizing her contribution to the Canadian and global economy; named one of the top 100 City Innovators Worldwide by UBM Future Cities for her passionate advocacy of Privacy by Design; chosen as one of the ‘Power 50’ by Canadian Business magazine for her tireless efforts as a privacy champion; awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the Unviersity of Guelph; she was selected for Maclean’s Magazine’s ‘Power List’ of the top 50 Canadians, and most recently, picked as one of the top 10 women in data security, compliance, and privacy you should follow on Twitter. In her leadership of the Privacy and Big Data Institute at Ryerson University Dr. Cavoukian is dedicated to demonstrating that Privacy can and must be included, side by side, with other functionalities such as security and business interests. Her mantra of “banish zero-sum” enables multiple interests to be served simultaneously – not one to the exclusion of the others.

Dr. Allaa Hilal

R&D Software Engineer, Intelligent Mechatronic Systems (IMS)

Bio: Allaa R. Hilal is an active researcher with 10 years of research experience in ambient intelligence, wireless sensor networks, autonomous systems, and embedded & fog computing, backed by versatile experience in academia & tech industry in proactive innovation, solution development, & turning novel ideas into revenue-generating products. She has her Doctorate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a Masters degree from the German University in Cairo. She joined as a visiting scholar the Networks and System Integration research group in Ulm University, Germany, to conduct her MSc. research. She possesses extensive experience in network design, intelligent algorithm design & machine learning. Allaa has been recognized and awarded numerous prestigious scholarships, most prominent of which are NSERC IRDF, NSERC CGS, Fulbright, DAAD, and OGS. She was also recognized by the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship as a Google scholar for her active role and leadership in supporting women in technology. Allaa is currently an R&D Software Developer and member of the innovation and emerging technology team at IMS, a world-renowned expert in connected car technology and a leader in Internet of Things. She has worked on IMS’ unique, real-time Connected Car Experience, where insights gained from wearable technology, weather and traffic information are transformed into situation-aware knowledge to anticipate driver behaviors and predict expected road conditions. While driving, the DriveSync connected car platform also gives drivers personalized audible coaching when unsafe behaviors are observed; including dangerous speeding, harsh cornering and tailgating, as well as comprehensive usage-based insurance (UBI) updates. Allaa is a passionate about Internet of Things, Women in Tech, STEM, Wireless Sensor Networks, Ambient Intelligence, and Responsible Innovation. In her spare time, she blogs about being a woman in the tech industry sharing her thoughts and experiences, as well as providing advice for future women in technology.

Elias Hadaya

Director, Insight and Research, World Vision

Bio: Elias is a focused marketing executive with over 16 years of experience in driving revenue growth in the not-for-profit, financial services and telecommunications industries. As a results-oriented and analytical marketer, Elias has a strong track record for influencing and impacting companies’ business plans and results through the development and implementation of effective CRM and Analytics solutions. Elias also has a background in database marketing strategies, coupled with the ability to build strong teams, which helps fulfill his organization’s mandate to attract, nurture, retain and win back valuable customers. Elias has a seat on the Analytics & Insight Council at the CMA (Canadian Marketing Association) and also has a seat on the Board of the Christie Refugee Center( a non-for profit helping refugees in Canada).

Fred Zhou

Co-Founder & CEO, Nvest

Bio: Fredrick is the Co-Founder/CEO at Nvest, a crowdsourced stock recommendation platform with the aim of returning meritocracy to the stock market. Nvest is building a community where stock advice is assessed based on the credibility of its recommender, while democratizing the world of investment advice. Prior to founding Nvest, Fredrick spend two year working in two different financial institutions, specializing in primary research on the psychographics of Latin American mutual fund market. He then grew very attached to collecting, transforming and interpreting data in order to gain a better understanding of the world. Fredrick saw a great opportunity to solve the chronical problem embedded in the social media side of investing, thus founded Nvest with his expertise. Academically, after graduating from Rotman, Fredrick proceeded to obtain a Master’s degree in Economics from York. One year later, Fredrick found himself in Nagoya Japan, receiving his MBA degree from NUCB. Fast forward two more years, he is now a lecturer at York, had appearances as a guest speaker in reputable conferences such as INET and CEA. In his PhD research, he is very close to finding an algorithm where psychological factors such as liquidity preference and animal spirits are used to determine the direction of stock index and economic growth. If the algorithm actually makes money, he promised himself an Xbox One for Christmas. (PS4 if it doesn’t work out.)

Ganesh Iyer

Bio: Ganesh Iyer is an Integration Solution Specialist at Information Builders. With over 17 years of experience in Information technology, Ganesh is a seasoned Integration professional who has managed and led the delivery of large integration projects across a broad spectrum of industry verticals. Many of his strategic implementations have had a direct impact on customer revenues through significant cost savings and process optimizations In his time at Information Builders, Ganesh has also driven product direction, specifically around Master Data Management and their newer Big Data Solutions. Ganesh is constantly looking at ways to provide innovative solutions to his customers and enjoys programming in Java. His experience in industry verticals includes government, insurance, utilities, manufacturing, services, financial services and technology. He holds a MBA from University of Mumbai and is Bachelor in Computer Science.

Gary Young

Director of Advanced Analytics, Dell Statistica

Bio: Gary is the Director of Advanced Analytics at Dell Statistica, where he works with organizations around the globe to leverage the unwavering power and impact of analytics. Gary also promotes the accessibility of analytics to business specialists, thus increasing the effectiveness of analytics in driving business improvement – Citizen Data Scientists, step right up. Prior to joining Dell, Gary spent two decades leading teams in advanced analytics, business intelligence and big data. He has held leadership positions at SAP, Adobe and SAS. He has led global teams while living abroad in France, Germany and the UK. Gary holds an MBA degree and a CPA license.

Graeme Moffat

VP Scientific & Regulatory Affairs, Muse

Bio: Graeme leads health and neuroscience R&D at InteraXon, a world leader in consumer neurotechnology and maker of Muse: the brain sensing headband. Prior to joining InteraXon, he served as Managing Editor of the Frontiers journal series under the Nature Publishing Group, covering Neuroscience, Neurology and Psychiatry. Graeme's experience also includes research engineering with CNRS (France) and Neurelec/Oticon Medical, as well as clinical trial development in universities and the medical device sector.

Inmar Givoni

VP Big Data, Kobo

Bio: Inmar Givoni is VP of Big Data at Kobo Inc. where she leads her team in applying machine learning and big data techniques to drive ecommerce in the e-pubs and e-readers business. She first joined Kobo in 2013 as a senior research scientist and worked on content analysis, website optimization, and reading analysis among other things. Prior to that, Inmar was a member of technical staff at Altera where she worked on optimization algorithms for cutting-edge programmable logic devices. Inmar received an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Computational Biology from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She later obtained her Ph.D. in computer science at the University of Toronto, specializing in Machine Learning and working under the supervision of Professor Brendan Frey. During her studies, Inmar was an academic visitor at the University of Cambridge, and interned with Microsoft Research Labs working first on e-commerce search problems and later on the Kinect pose estimation system. She is the author of numerous top-tier academic publications and patents.

Isabel Chapman

Principal Analyst, Machina Research

Bio: Isabel has over 15 years experience in both the telecom and IT sectors, with much time spent at the intersection of the two. As a Principal Analyst with Machina Research, a world leading provider of market intelligence and strategic insight on M2M, IOT, and Big Data, Isabel’s focus is Enterprise IOT, Platforms, and the North American IOT Ecosystem. Isabel has a background in strategy consulting, product management, and partner alliances at companies such as Microsoft, Dell, Motorola, and Deloitte. During that time, she launched numerous leading edge products and services. Isabel was also a global software analyst with IDC. Recently, she managed the IOT product organization at a leading North American carrier. She is a government advisor on IOT. Jan Kestle

Bio: Founder and President of Environics Analytics, Jan Kestle has been a leader in the marketing information industry for more than forty years. An expert in using statistics and mathematics to help solve business challenges, she directed the initiatives creating the PRIZM5 segmentation system, WealthScapes financial database and ENVISION5 micromarketing platform. At EA, she’s helped hundreds of customers—in industries ranging from finance and retail to the not-for-profit sector—turn data and analytics into insight, strategy and engagement. Prior to founding EA in 2003, Jan was president of Compusearch and spent 19 years at the Ontario Statistical Centre.

Janice Liu

Director of Digital Solutions and Operations, Cossette Media

Bio: Janice Liu, Director of Digital Solutions and Operations at Cossette media leads a team that drives performance marketing strategy for all of their clients across finserve, telco, ecomm and more. Janice has led and managed large cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives on both the agency as well as client side. At her previous role as Head of Digital Personalization and Campaign Optimization at CIBC, Janice developed and executed on short to long term digital sales strategies to achieve overall sales goals. An accomplished and seasoned marketer, Janice has over 10 years of experience in digital marketing, with a focus on performance and acquisition initiatives to drive online sales. Janice is passionate about technology and the ability to leverage digital interactions to drive personalized, client-centric experiences. Janice earned her Bachelors of Arts degree from McGill university in Political Science. Her career in the digital space began during her time at McGill was put to use to support various charity organizations she was a part of. After graduating university, Janice gained experience working in the fashion wholesale industry, which led to her owning her own e-commerce business in 2011, a time when e-commerce was only beginning to flourish and make great advancements in Canada and the United States.

Jason Buffone

Bio: Jason is an analytics domain expert with 15 years of leadership and advisory experience to clients of all sizes and industries across North America. Jason has held various roles in Product Management & Technical Sales during his career. In 2015, he joined IBM Canada to lead the Technical Sales organization for Analytics. Jennifer Lee

Partner, National Retail & Consumer Analytics , Deloitte

Bio: Jennifer leads the National Retail Practice for Canada and Chile, South America. She founded and leads the Omnichannel (“customer can buy anytime, anywhere, any way she wants”) practice for Deloitte Canada and embeds analytics into Omnichannel strategies. Jennifer advises clients on key strategies focused on transitioning from multi-channel to an Omni channel customer experience. She advises C-level clients on how to bring together the physical and digital worlds together to drive revenue growth and operational efficiencies. Jennifer sits on the innovation leadership team and recently launched a start up company called “Deloitte Machines” as part of Deloitte’s 2014 CEO Challenge. Deloitte Machines will focus on enhancing the Omnichannel brand experience in malls and mall and physical store experience. Deloitte Machines was one of three startups that received with seed funding from Deloitte Canada. Jennifer works with C-suite leaders in the consumer business industry, including global brands and manufacturers, internet gaming, fashion, retail and grocery. Jennifer engages in extensive volunteer work. Jennifer recently was elected to the Empire Club of Canada’s Board of Directors. Jennifer has worked with large international aid organizations in developing the strategic plan focused on restructuring and enhancing the performance of the microfinance institutions in Azerbaijan. She is the key strategic adviser the Azerbaijani Microfinance Association (“AMFA”), an association of 27 microfinance institutions in Baku, The focus of her work was to promote self-sustainability and self reliance within the microfinance industry. Recently, Jennifer began working with the Asian Credit Fund in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Jennifer is also the Lead Strategic Planner for the Merit Award Bursary Program, a not-for-profit which focuses on encouraging immigrant and disadvantaged high school students to attend university or college. She is on the University of Waterloo’s Advisory Board for the Applied Studies International Trade and is an advisor to the University of Toronto’s Graduate Management Consulting Association. Jennifer holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto, and an undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo. Jennifer was the youngest person ever to be admitted into the Executive MBA Program at the Rotman School of Business.

Jim Scott

Director, Enterprise Strategy & Architecture, MapR

Bio: Jim drives enterprise architecture and strategy at MapR. Jim Scott is the cofounder of the Chicago Hadoop Users Group. As cofounder, Jim helped build the Hadoop community in Chicago for the past four years. He has implemented Hadoop at three different companies, supporting a variety of enterprise use cases from managing Points of Interest for mapping applications, to Online Transactional Processing in advertising, as well as full data center monitoring and general data processing. Prior to MapR, Jim was SVP of Information Technology and Operations at SPINS, the leading provider of retail consumer insights, analytics reporting and consulting services for the Natural, Organic and Specialty Products industry. Additionally, he served as Lead Engineer/Architect for dotomi, one of the world’s largest and most diversified digital marketing companies. Prior to dotomi, Jim held several architect positions with companies such as aircell, NAVTEQ, Classified Ventures, Innobean, Imagitek, and Dow Chemical, where his work with high-throughput computing was a precursor to more standardized big data concepts like Hadoop.

Joel Cumming

Head of Data, Kik

Bio: Joel is the Head of Data at Kik Interactive, where he leads data sciences and engineering for Kik’s Messenger’s millions of user, billions of messages, and petabytes of data. Prior to joining Kik, Joel spent 9 years at BlackBerry leading the data sciences and big data teams in Customer Information, R&D, and BBM. Joel has 8 patent filings on topics including the inference of interests through location data, traffic information based on the behaviour of a social network, and group chat personalization. His passion lies in using data for social purpose, leveraging data sciences and analytics to help alleviate poverty and provide education in developing countries.

John K Thompson

GM Analytics, Dell

Bio: John Thompson is the General Manager for Advanced Analytics at Dell Software. John has 25 years of experience in building and growing technology companies in the information management segment. John has focused on Big Data, analytics, cloud computing, cognitive computing, business intelligence and data warehousing, descriptive analytics, predictive analytics, analytical applications, deep learning, data mining and exploration for the purpose of leveraging data for competitive advantage. One of his primary areas of focus and interest has been working with innovative technologies to bring change to disrupt existing markets. Mr. Thompson has developed and executed plans for overall sales and marketing, product development, market entry and has helped a number of firms successfully change the dynamics of what have been considered established and stable markets. John has helped European companies open operations in the US from a standing start to profitable operations. His expertise spans all legal, regulatory and compliance requirements at the federal and state levels. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Ferris State University and a MBA in Marketing from DePaul University.
