Ashara Morris

President and CEO, Harmony's Heart LLC

Bio: Ashara Morris has been talking with animals her entire life. When she was younger, it was just the way things were – to her, everything, plants, animals, her favorite chair – they all had a voice. Growing up in the Midwest, those kinds of conversations weren’t really encouraged, so she got sidetracked into the more mundane parts of the world, working for many years in computer-related jobs, but always having animals nearby. She found living in a city difficult; she’s always been a country girl. When living in the Pacific Northwest, she met her mentor and wonderful friend, Joy Turner of Talk With Your Animals, and with Joy’s help and encouragement, got herself back on track to her real passion – the animals. Now Ashara has the honor of talking with animals, living and passed, and recognizes that this is what she was put on this planet to do – help people connect with their animal friends, and through the animals, with themselves. Every time an animal speaks, and someone listens, good things happen.

Cody Harrison

Owner, CH Equine Training Facility

Bio: Cody’s knowledge and understanding of equine development, horse bio-mechanics and horse and rider movement allows him to work with horses of all ages. He is a talented riding instructor with a goal to teach riding skills that enhance the student’s equestrian experience and performance with their horse. Cody excels at teaching his students basic riding skills as well as advanced skills including Dressage, Jumping, and Western disciplines. Cody believes that as a horse trainer and horse owner, we must always be trying to better the health, fitness and longevity of our horse’s life and career. We achieve this by reducing mental and physical stress for both horse and rider to a minimum. Relaxation allows for a more efficient and better learning environment. We must work with the anatomy of both horse and rider to keep them in balance and relaxed which allows for all effort to be used for positive movement rather than wasting energy from tension. It is equally important to know the horse’s limitations so we do not ask for more than the horse is capable. You must allow the horse time to understand what it is being asked of him yet at the same time know when to push. Cody focuses on lightness, mental and physical balance, basic horsemanship knowledge, and safety in lessons and works with client’s horses providing daily training reinforcing his methods of gentle, yet effective consistent horse training. Regardless of the discipline of the rider, it is absolutely necessary to have proper understanding and a good mindset.

Melisa Pearce

Owner, Touched by a Horse Inc

Bio: Melisa Pearce Melisa is a lifelong horsewoman and entrepreneur. She was chosen one of the Top 50 Most Influential Horsewomen by Horse South Magazine in 2008 and she has won two World Championship American Paint Horse Association awards. She has bred over 150 foals, owned and managed multiple ranches all while developing her expertise as a trained psychotherapist. Through her therapy work with clients at her ranches, Melisa discovered her clients became more grounded and secure when working with horses. This inspired her to expose a wide range of people to the beauty and wonder of horses through experiential workshops and retreats that integrate horse interaction with positive guidance. The horses help people examine how they have chosen to create their past and how to create a better future. Through her groundbreaking twenty-plus years of working horses and humans together in a therapeutic way, Melisa found that horses teach people much from being in the present moment. This led Melisa to develop her Equine Gestalt Coaching Method® that she shares through her Certification Program, training others in the same effective method. Her passion is teaching others how to facilitate the work, involving the emotional healing and exploration of self, through interaction with horses. Because horses become frustrated when given mixed signals, Melisa finds that the horse gives the person increased clarity and focus showing them how to get better results. By shifting a person’s approach there is immediate payoffs with both horse and human interactions. Melisa further demonstrates that a person who is willing to refine their focus, and establish a plan for reaching their goals exhibits more determination and will ultimately experience more success in achieving goals in all areas of their life. Her success in translating human behavior through observation and interaction with horses has made her a highly effective motivational speaker. Melisa is able to tailor her comments to her audience whether it is in an arena, auditorium, personal retreat setting, business or sales team meeting. Melisa shares her expert knowledge of equine supported coaching and the power of emotional healing by partnering with horses through her Equine Gestalt Coaching Method®. She demonstrates this with large or small audiences through crowd pleasing live horse/human demonstrations, seminars and keynote presentations which she has delivered across the country. She has been a clinician at the Equine Affaire in Ohio and California; the Equine Extravaganza in Virginia and North Carolina; as well as many other venues. Her work has been featured in American Cowboy Magazine, American Paint Horse Journal, Horse Connection Magazine, The Denver Business Journal, Colorado Lifestyles Magazine, 5280 Denver’s Mile High Magazine, and others. Melisa is an author who has written for several magazines, as well as created the inspirational card deck Whispers from a Horse’s Heart. She is the creator of the personalized Wisdom Messages, which are delivered internationally to subscriber’s email on a daily basis. Her program has also earned the prestigious “Best of” award in being named the Best Spiritual Retreat by 5280 Magazine in Denver. Her book, Eponalisa: The Fall Ride, was released in January 2009. This parable about finding purpose and meaning in life earned top honors at the Colorado Independent Publishers Awards and has quickly become a favorite of readers everywhere. Melisa recently edited and published the first volume of an anthology series entitled Touched by a Horse, Equine Coaching Stories. Consecutive volumes will be published annually and feature stores of hope and healing by Touched by a Horse Equine Gestalt Coaching Method Certification Program graduates and students.

Steuart Pittman

Founder and President, Retired Racehorse Project

Bio: Steuart began riding as a child in the hunt field, in pony races, and at local shows. He was introduced to eventing through Pony Club and learned the fundamentals of dressage as a teenager from his inspiration and mentor, Ellen Shepherd. In high school Steuart evented through Preliminary on his Thoroughbred mare, Hurricane Hannah. After a ten-year absence from horses, Steuart returned full force in 1990. Since then he has derived most of his income from training and selling horses for eventing, dressage, and jumpers. Steuart can be seen each year with a new crop of horses who usually compete to the preliminary level and are sold. Some he has shown in the preliminary jumper circuit, and one he has shown fourth level dressage. In Salute The Truth, Steuart finally has a horse that is not for sale and is has competed up to the Advanced level. Steuart's instruction has come from a variety of trainers including Bruce Davidson, to whom he went regularly with his stallion Salute The Truth; Jim Wofford, Gunnar Ostergaard, Hans Jurgen, Stuart Black, Becky Langwost, and Linda Zang for dressage. He credits most of what he knows to the horses that he has worked with. He believes that all of us learn mostly from our horses, and in his teaching he attempts to speak from the viewpoint of the horse. The other major influence on Steuart's riding has been 20 years of daily practice in Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese practice of meditative movements designed to open up the free flow of energy through the body. Steuart often describes the interaction between horse and rider in terms of energy and encourages riders to think and feel in these terms. In 2003 Steuart participated in the first training program and assessment of the US Eventing Association's Instructor Certification Program. After intensive coaching and practice teaching before Karen O'Connor, Eric Horgan, Don Sachey and others, Steuart went to Texas to be evaluated in the areas of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping instruction, horse management, and safety. He passed in all areas and is now a part of the small group of trainers in the country certified to teach through the preliminary level. The program includes continuing education with the top trainers in the sport.
