Godfrey Gibbison

Dean, College of Charleston, School of Professional Studies

Bio: Dr. Godfrey A. Gibbison is an associate professor of economics and dean of the School of Professional Studies at the College of Charleston. He earned a Ph.D. in economics in 1998 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, his M.S. in agricultural economics at Iowa State University in 1995 and his B.S. in economics at the University of the West Indies in 1992. He taught as a visiting assistant professor at Centre College (Ky.) between 1999 and 2000, and was a lecturer in economics at the University of the West Indies between 2000 and 2002. Prior to joining the College, he was the director of the School of Economic Development at Georgia Southern University, where he served on the faculty from 2002 to 2012. Elisabeth Kovacs

Workforce Development Manager, South Carolina Department of Commerce

Bio: Elisabeth Kovacs is an experienced professional in economic development, workforce development, and community development. With an extensive background in moving South Carolina’s economy and workforce forward, Ms. Kovacs currently serves as the Workforce Development Manager for the South Carolina Department of Commerce. As such, Ms. Kovacs manages SCDOC workforce development initiatives, including the Regional Workforce Advisors – a group of twelve regional representatives who work with education and business at the local level to identify and address skills gaps. Prior to coming to Commerce, Ms. Kovacs served in several different capacities at the Department of Employment and Workforce working in depth with the Certified Work Ready Communities (CWRC) and National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) programs. Ms. Kovacs is a certified Economic Development Finance Professional, South Carolina Certified Economic Development Professional, and has completed two years of the nationally accredited Economic Development Institute. Ms. Kovacs is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Ms. Kovacs is a panelist.
