This non-wired solution pilot is the first of its kind in Minnesota. We worked with Minnesota’s largest IOU, Xcel Energy, to select a NWS site at which we will help defer .5 MW of system peak capacity needs. Using a detailed analysis of feeder-level and measure-level data, we developed an approach that maintains a tight budget by focusing on energy efficiency and demand-response. We observed that about 1.5 MW load might be deferred using Xcel Energy’s existing enrollment in “Saver’s Switch,” a direct load control air conditioner program, provided that there are software upgrades for implementation at the substation level.
