Program Evaluation Workshop: Measuring What Counts
Wednesday, December 2
11:00 am - 2:00 pm

  • Christie Drew, Ph.D. (Workshop Leader) Chief, Program Analysis Branch, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
  • Carrie Leach, Ph.D. (Moderator) Research Associate, CURES & Institute of Gerontology, WSU

This three-hour workshop will be delivered by Christie Drew, PhD, Chief of the Program Analysis Branch at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). Attendees will receive an electronic copy an evaluation manual, co-authored by Dr. Drew, titled Partnerships for Public Health Evaluation Metrics Manual, a product of the NIEHS.

This three-hour workshop will be limited to 40 participants. Dr. Drew will present the logic model concept using pre-designed case studies, or examples identified by participants responses provided at the time when they register. After providing the logic model overview, participants will work in small virtual break out groups to develop activities, outputs and impacts to achieve a goal.

Once we establish several broad components of the logic model we will work on developing metrics for as many components of the logic model as possible during the time allotted. We invite participants to work in their small break out groups to identify the metrics and develop strategies to collect and analyze data that can be used to document success. The metrics exercise includes reminders and strategies to think through the feasibility and appropriateness of the metrics. We aim to be dynamic and interactive, to keep people engaged and move the conversations forward. A wrap-up discussion gives participants opportunity to comment and talk about implementation planning.
