As the President and CEO of HealthCore Clinic, Teresa sees the needs of her community firsthand and how the environment impacts her community’s access to healthcare services. Prior to becoming President and CEO, she was a consumer who had accessed services at HealthCore, and she will describe how her lived experience informs her dedication to patient-centered care. She believes that where we live should not determine our health or our family’s health and instills that value in the HealthCore organization. Safety net clinics, like HealthCare, are valuable assets because they provide medical services for vulnerable populations, but they also work to address social determinants.

Learning objectives

  • Identify barriers to navigating the system through a lived experience
  • Discuss the six pillars of social determinants of health and the impact they have on oral health
  • Strategies we can work on to improve health care systems integration in our communities
