IGSC is hosting a free screening of “This is the Way We Rise” (15 min), a short film currently showing at Sundance, followed by a Talk Story (45 min) with Dr. Jamaica Heolimeleikalani Osorio (featured in the film) and Director Ciara Lacy. The short film depicts the movement to protect Manua Kea, focusing on Dr. Osorio's creative process as it informs her work and role as a kiaʻi (protector) of the mauna, while providing insights into how we relate to the land and each other. IGSC hopes this screening and talk story is an opportunity for both conference attendees and interested community members alike to build solidarity across local and international communities through learning more about Hawaiʻi, Hawaiian values, and the struggles and triumphs of modern Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians).
