Nadia Syed, M.P.H.

Public Health Coordinator, ACCESS

Nadia Syed is a Public Health Program Coordinator at the Community Health and Research Center at ACCESS. Her work at ACCESS focuses on implementing culturally tailored programs in diabetes prevention and hypertension management. She is also part of ACCESS’ research team, where she assists with research review, development, and building of research partnerships. Nadia also works with Wayne State University and Karmanos as part of the Cancer Action Coalition and as a member of the Research and Advocacy Consortium. Nadia received her Master of Public Health in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan in 2017.

In this session, participants will hear from community leaders and learn how to build community-academic research partnerships and negotiate budgets, intellectual property, and different organizational work styles.

We will focus on resources for community-based organizations in negotiating research partnerships; guidelines for researchers in approaching community-based organizations and consider key questions, such as: What are the benefits of research partnerships to community stakeholders? What are the experiences of community members who have already taken part of research?  How do you approach and build relationships with community-based organizations?
