Voncile Brown-Miller

Voncile Brown-Miller earned her degree at Michigan State University, in the area of Health Science & Child Development, extended study in Child Development at Merrill Palmer Institute of Detroit Michigan. She has been working in the area of community health care for the past 20 years. She is the former director of Health Disparity Programs at the former Great Lakes Division of the American Cancer Society, where she trained Division staff on identifying health disparities in underserved communities within the Great Lakes Division (Michigan & Indiana.) She was a national trainer for the Body & Soul Program for the National Cancer Institute where she trained church congregations to implement health ministries within the state of Michigan and Indiana. Later she would connect with Dr. Hayley Thompson to bring the Witness Project to Detroit. This project educated African American women about their breast and cervical cancer risk. Over 3, 000 women were trained in this program. She went on to assist with the development of the Cancer Action Council, first within the tri county area, and later serving Southeastern Michigan including Genesee County. Now she manages all the Cancer Action Council staff that serve 9 councils and soon to be 13 councils for Karmanos Cancer Institute, Office of Cancer Health Equity and Community Engagement. Former board member of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, founding member of Sisters Network of Metropolitan Detroit, Health Ministry Chair for Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, Board President of the Interfaith Health and Hope Coalition. She is married to Horace Miller Jr. and the mother of 2 sons Horace and Edward and she has 2 granddaughters Lil Voncile and Phoenix. She is a native Detroiter and born in Hamtramck, MI. She has been a community advocate, and has work to level the playing field in education and health throughout her 40 year career.
