Mr. Osamu Arakawa is the farm manager of the Asian Rural Institute in Japan. An exposure tour in the Philippines organized by Kyoto Catholic Youth Center impacted his life. The reality of the poor people in a rural village and in an urban slum motivated him to join the governmental program of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer sand he was engaged in a project of Agroforestry and Community Forest in Tanzania for two-and-a-half years. This experience opened his eyes to worldwide environmental issues. After working in Nepal for three years and in East Timor for one year through Catholic Church Organizations, he started working at Asian Rural Institute in 2001 and he has practiced organic farming for the past16 years. He has been a trainer for a servant leadership training through organic farming that is a very unique approach to train rural leaders in Asia, Africa, and Central and South America.
