Daniel Alonso is Telecommunication Engineer by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and Master in Advanced Sciences of Modern Telecommunications by the Universidad de Valencia. Since 2017, he is working with the Strategic and Competitive Strategic (SCI) department at ITI (Technological Institute of Valencia), where he plays the role of Artificial Intelligence & Big Data Partnerships Driver, which includes the establishment of collaborations, the coordination of proposals and participation in national and European R&D projects related to Big Data and AI. He is part of the Steering Committee of the Big Data Value PPP and chair of the BDVA i-Spaces group. He is coordinating the H2020 project EUHubs4Data, starting in September 2020, and aimed at the establishment of a European federation of Data Driven DIHs

Description

The main objective of this track is to make accessible by European industry and society the last advances and tools in Europe on Big Data and AI, to foster the adoption of these tools and services, and to facilitate their market uptake. To accomplish this goal, needs, challenges and barriers from both the offer and the demand side have to be considered. Besides, the successful achievement of this objective implies that we consider simultaneously the European dimension (solutions available at European level) combined with a national and regional perspective (solutions adapted and accessible by local ecosystems). It includes:
  • To understand needs of industry and society both at European and national / regional level
  • To bring to them last advances in Europe on Big Data and AI
  • To make those solutions accessible at regional / local level
  • To support them in the adoption and use of the solutions
  • To find ways of collaboration and understanding of offer and demand sides

Concept:
During this session, we will explore potential and existing models of collaboration/federation in cross-border initiatives that can be applied in a practical / realistic way to foster data driven innovation at European level, and make this innovation available and accessible to all actors in the European data landscape, in particular SMEs and Start-ups, as it is aimed in the project EUHubs4Data. Starting from a general view on needs, benefits and models of a federation, we will focus on specific and concrete aspects such as governance and structure, a federated catalogue / offer (including data sources, data governance, delivery of joint services and a common training programme), potential legal or organisational barriers, etc. We will also count with the experience of actors involved in existing and different types of federation and networks.
 
Objectives:
 
The expected outcome from this workshop aims to be a set of recommendations about the best options for each of the aspects considered, that could contribute, in the scope of EUHubs4Data project, to the establishment of federated network of data-driven experimentation facilities in Europe (with special focus on AI and Data service innovation development and experimentation), find synergies, share knowledge and assets, and let small and medium size actors on each region to benefit from latest European advances on those fields.

Big Data Value Best Success Stories 2020

BDVe project and BDVA have organized  this year the second edition of the Best Success Story (BSS) contest. The objective of this activity is threefold: 1) to promote and give visibility to the results produced by PPP projects or BDVA SMEs, 2) to present them in a way that could be better understood by a wider audience, and 3) to support them in how to present those results in in an entertaining, fun and constructive way. This year, 18 stories from 9 projects and 5 SMEs have been received, and results have been recently announced (see all information at: https://www.big-data-value.eu/best-success-story-award-2020/finalists/). During this session, we will present winners and runners up on the different categories, allowing them to share with the audience their respective success stories.

The goal of this session is to bring together European Data incubators to find complementarities, synergies and to identify ways of collaboration towards the future. This session brings together all the past, ongoing and new data incubators part of the Big Data Value PPP  and other related partnerships and initiatives. The session is organised by the BDVe project and EUHubs4Data project and counts with the participation of European Data Incubator, Data Market Services, MediaHub, REACH, and i4TRUST partnership projects.
