Kean Liu

General Manager, CRRC Zhuzhou Institute

Liu Kean, born in Hunan Province in 1971, he received the B.S. degree in industrial electric automation from Tongji University, and later received his Master's degree in business management respectively from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. He is now a professorate senior engineer and the General Manager of CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Co. , Ltd..He is a member of SAC/TC278, and the expert of the Ninth technical committee (MT31, MT61377 working group) of the International Electrotechnical Commission. In the past 26 years, Liu Kean has been engaged in the research of AC drive technology for locomotive traction. As a core member, he has been responsible for the R & D of several major autonomous traction system projects in the field of China's Rail Transit, and the performance has reached the international leading level. The world's most advanced high-speed trains, mainline locomotives and urban rail vehicles are all loaded with the "brains" and "hearts" that his team has developed. In order to make CRRC to be a world famous brand, he completed many original innovations, presided over and participated in more than 20 national and provincial-level scientific research projects, published nearly 30 papers, obtained 36 invention patents, and won two Chinese Patent Gold Awards, two State Science and Technology Prizes, and has repeatedly won provincial and ministerial awards.

This track addresses the current challenges that arise at the interface between Big Data and autonomous systems for industry and the development of autonomous systems. Especially the interface between data infrastructures, data access and data sharing on the one hand and autonomous systems or robots on the other:
  • What are the biggest challenges in terms of Big Data and robotics (e.g. real-time data streams and latency)?
  • Which data infrastructures are needed to support the development of interactive, context aware, adjustable, learning autonomous systems?
  • How can improve access to data to advance the development of autonomous systems?
  • Do we need more cooperation regarding large amounts of data for autonomous systems and how can we foster cooperation?
In order to meet these challenges, questions arise regarding options for action and the development of strategies:
  • How can research and development help the industry?
  • How can a European way be developed to strengthen AI and autonomous systems and strengthen Europe's position in international competition?
  • Which industrial strategy is necessary for Europe and what could it look like?
To discuss these challenges and issues, the track will bring together industry representatives from the US, China and the EU and robotics researchers.
