CEO & Executive Editor, Rappler
A journalist for more than 30 years, I built on the discipline of traditional journalism and embraced what technology offers: social media, crowdsourcing and big data. Author of "FROM BIN LADEN TO FACEBOOK: 10 Days of Abduction, 10 Years of Terrorism" and "Seeds of Terror: An Eyewitness Account of al-Qaeda's Newest Center of Operations in Southeast Asia" I'm interested in seeing how the combination of broadcasting, the Internet, social media and mobile phone technology can be used for social change.

Don't miss our Saturday gala evening. We start with a reception at the University of Hamburg's Audimax auditorium, followed by a welcome from your hosts and our dynamic master of ceremonies, Yared Terfa Dibaba. Then come the Global Shining Light Awards, for investigations under threat or duress, and the nominees are extraordinary this year. Next is a keynote by the remarkable Maria Ressa, CEO of Rappler, whose staff has withstood a vicious campaign to destroy it by the Philippine president. All this will be punctuated by tunes from Skyliner Bigband, HCU's own jazz orchestra. Afterward, join us for dinner at 21:00, followed by drinks and dancing.
