Editor-in-chief, Myanmar Now
Ko Swe Win is editor-in-chief of the Yangon-based investigative news outlet Myanmar Now. He recently earned Asia’s highest honor, taking home a 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Award alongside five other recipients from across Asia. He is the seventh Myanmar citizen to win the prestigious award. Both Ko and his Myanmar Now are well-known for in-depth, investigative reporting on human rights abuses; corruption; for criticizing ultranationalist monks; and for exposing the family wealth of military generals. Ko was also held for seven years as a political prisoner on national security-related charges—enduring torture and starvation—during military rule.
