Program Officer for the Open Places Initiative, Open Society Foundations
Renata Peralta is the Program Officer for the Learning and Impact team within Open Society – U.S., but started at Open Society Foundations (OSF) as the Program Officer for the Open Places Initiative, a hyper-local initiative with the goal of building civic capacity. At OSF, she is also an elected Shop Steward in the union, associated with the Communication Workers of America (CWA). Prior to joining OSF, Renata worked in the field of education research: first as a Research Assistant at Research for Action in Philadelphia, then as a consultant for the NYC Department of Education, and finally as the Associate Director of Research and Evaluation for the NYC Leadership Academy. Renata also worked for city government in the Mayor's Office of Education under Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. Renata holds a BA in Political Science and Education from Swarthmore College, and an MA in Education Policy from the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Teachers College.

Join us to hear from grantmakers whose institutions are modeling how we must rethink systems and grantmaking strategies to be accountable to Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities and low-income communities. We will share how and why philanthropy must be bold and show up differently for frontline communities that are rising up against state violence, continuing to grapple with the COVID-19 public health and economic crisis, and working to dismantle oppressive systems to transform our communities & world.
