Gelia Frederick-van Genderen, Director of the Water Authority in the Cayman Islands, has almost 37 years of experience in various aspects of the water and wastewater industry. She has been employed by the Water Authority since 1988 in progressively responsible positions and as Director since 2000. She is responsible for the overall management of the Water Authority, a statutory corporation owned by the Cayman Islands Government, and oversees the development of water and wastewater infrastructure in the Cayman Islands. Dr. Frederick-van Genderen’s broad experience includes practical hands-on water research, water quality control management, water resources regulation, human resources development, overseeing of major civil engineering contracts, and development of water and wastewater legislation. She is a member of a number of water and wastewater associations regionally as well as internationally. She has served as a Vice President of the Cayman Islands Civil Service Credit Union and as a Councilor on the Cayman Islands Chamber Council. Dr. Frederick-van Genderen serves as the Chair of the Emergency Support Team for Utilities (water, electricity, and fuel) at Hazard Management Cayman Islands. She received her Ph.D. in the use of bacteriophage hydraulic tracers in waste stabilisation ponds from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Surrey, U.K. Fun Fact – really likes frogs and loves to travel!
