Cierra Murphy-Higgs MS, EdS, IBCLC is a lactation and perinatal mental health professional and educator with a dedicated focus on improving black maternal health outcomes. She holds a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Human Lactation from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and both a Specialist in Education and a Master of Science in Counseling and Educational Development from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. With experience as a lactation consultant and educator at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Cierra has been instrumental in designing educational materials, revamping training curriculums for providers and staff, and leading classes for expecting families. She has a robust background in mental health support, currently serving as a Perinatal Behavioral Health Coach at FamilyWell Health, where she supports pregnant and postpartum patients and manages the Perinatal Behavioral Health Certification program. Cierra is committed to advancing breastfeeding equity and actively increasing the number of Black and Brown IBCLCs. As the Didactic Coordinator of North Carolina A&T’s Human Lactation Pathway 2 Graduate Program, she plays a pivotal role in this effort. Her work is marked by passionate advocacy for maternal health and a dedication to empowering families through education and support.
