Description

Amber Dance is an award-winning freelance science journalist in the Los Angeles area. In addition to organizing the science speaker slate for this conference, she is a contributing writer for Knowable Magazine from Annual Reviews and has written for Nature, the Los Angeles Times, Science News, PNAS Front Matter, Sapiens, The Scientist, and other publications. This fall she is an Instructor for Science Writing I at UCLA Extension. She is also a Fictionary Certified StoryCoach Editor. Prior to her journalism career, she earned an Sc.B. at Brown University and a Ph.D. in cell biology and microbiology from UC San Diego with an HHMI Predoctoral Fellowship. She was an AAAS Mass Media Fellow before earning a certificate in science communication from UC Santa Cruz. Honors include awards from the American Society of Journalists and Authors, Best Shortform Science Writing, Folio Magazine as well as an honorable mentions from The Bricker Award and the Hastings Center, the Diane McGurgan Service Award from NASW, and the Clark/Payne Award for Young Science Writers.
