Description

Richard Webby shapes our understanding of influenza and viral transmission not just at St. Jude, but around the world. As director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Studies on the Ecology of Influenza in Animals and Birds, Webby is a key player on the international stage shaping our understanding of virus pathogenicity and managing our response to outbreaks. From his home in New Zealand, Webby came to St. Jude as a postdoctoral fellow under the famed Robert Webster, studying a group of viruses that would become the 2009 swine flu pandemic. He was promoted to faculty with the emergence of the avian influenza viruses in Asia and continues his storied career focused on influenza and pandemic preparedness.
