Esther Honig built her career reporting for National Public Radio stations across middle America. She’s covered the opioid epidemic in Ohio, immigration in Kansas and the impacts of Trump’s trade wars in Colorado. As a reporter for Harvest Public Media, a regional reporting collaborative for NPR, she contributed frequently to the national network and honed her current expertise: immigration and agriculture. Now as an independent journalist Esther is a contributing writer for FERN, the Food and Environment Reporting Network and she splits her time reporting from Mexico and from her home in Colorado. A fluent Spanish-speaker, with a degree in Spanish, Latin American Studies, Esther writes investigative stories for print publications such as, The Nation and Mother Jones Magazine. Her first love will always be audio and she’s produced stories for podcasts, like Snap Judgement and Latino USA. She’s a recipient of the UC Berkeley-11th Hour Food and Farming Fellowship and her work has been recognized by Edward R. Murrow awards and the Society for Professional Journalists.
