Mitchell Weiss received his M.D. and a Ph.D. in genetics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and trained in pediatric hematology-oncology at Boston Children’s Hospital. After several years in the biotech industry, Weiss joined the faculty at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania before moving to St. Jude in 2014. He currently serves as chair of the Department of Hematology at St. Jude, where he facilitates cutting-edge research, fosters faculty development, and promotes outstanding clinical care for patients with non-malignant blood disorders. Weiss has had continuous funding from the NIH since 2002 and is the recipient of several career achievement awards. He strives to perform research of relevance to clinical medicine and to gain scientific inspiration from his patients.
