Michael Poppa (he/him) began with Mainstream in January 2020, after serving his first term on the Roeland Park City Council, and as the director of member engagement for the Northeast Johnson County Chamber of Commerce. Michael was first introduced to Mainstream in 2014, while serving his community as the local chapter chair for Equality Kansas. That same year he led the grassroots campaign that championed to passage the first LGTBQ-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance in Johnson County, Kansas and only second of its kind in the state at that time. In 2023, he became the first out gay mayor for Roeland Park. Michael is proud to continue serving his community as both an elected official, and in his role with Mainstream.
