Native of Troy, Alabama, Euri Townsy Carr has resided in the River Region since graduating cum laude from Alabama State University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in English Language Arts Education. She received a Master of Education from ASU in 2013 and is pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Law with an arts education-focused dissertation topic. During her academic studies, Carr participated in the Theatre Arts and Spanish Departments. She was one of the first English majors to study creative writing and philosophy abroad at the University of Stirling, Scotland. She was active in the University’s Dramatic Guild, Elite Modeling Company, and Eclectic Dance Company as the production manager. She helped form the ASU Poetry and Writing Club with three classmates. Carr holds two teacher certifications and is a former 11-year performing arts educator. She served as the Arts and Electives department chair for two years during her teaching career and facilitated professional development workshops for Theatre instructors in Montgomery Public Schools. Carr strives to bring arts experiences to communities and has five years of experience teaching in rural area schools in Alabama as an independent contractor. She collaborated with Montgomery Public Schools and the Alabama State Department of Education to develop theatre education curriculums and course of study standards. Along with several training opportunities throughout her career, Carr was selected to participate in the Residential Directing Workshop at The Juilliard School in 2012 and attended the Broadway Teachers Workshop 2019 in New York. Carr is currently the Performing Arts Program Manager at the Alabama State Council on the Arts where she helps manage grants for individual artists and organizations while conducting site visits and workshops on grant writing throughout the state. She serves on the Alabama Dance Council and Amp Up Arts board. Carr is married to esteemed football coach, Johnathan Carr, and has a fur-son, Thanos. When not spending time with her family and friends or studying, she enjoys serving the community with HandsOn River Region, participating in community theatre, advocating for the arts, planning, and creating.
