Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Jason Dempsey served for 22 years as an infantry officer in the United States Army, last serving as special assistant to the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. In addition to his conventional military assignments, he spent two years in the White House, first developing the First Lady's campaign to support military families and later coordinating interagency efforts to better serve the military community. He also taught at the United States Military Academy, West Point and has published extensively on America’s relationship to its military and on the challenges and opportunities facing veterans as they transition into civilian life. During his career, he deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan and his commentary on those conflicts has been featured in numerous publications and documentaries. He earned a BS from USMA and holds a PhD in political science from Columbia University.
