20 Degrees Consulting Ltd

An experienced knowledge transfer practitioner with significant experience of commercializing intellectual property. He was the Head of the Commercial Services Office at the University of Glamorgan/University of South Wales for 13 years (and a manager there for 5 years prior to this) before leaving to found 20 Degrees Consulting Ltd with another director. The university role saw Alun overseeing and growing a significant training and consultancy business while also expanding the range of innovation and commercialisation activities of the university. He set up and led a number of multi-university, multi-stakeholder projects such as, but not restricted to, HELP Wales (Europen Regional Development Fund supported with 13 universities), the Strategic Insight Programme (10 university partners) and the China-Wales Higher Education Training Consortium (multiple stakeholders including 10 universities, Welsh Government and various Chinese entities). During his career, Alun has undertaken a wide variety of relevant training, from ‘Managing Intellectual Property’ and ‘How to License your Technology’ to the ILM level 7 Certificate in Management. He attended regular practitioner events of relevance from UNICO (University Companies association) to British Council’s Going Global. Alun has been a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management, a member of the Institute of Directors and remains a Member of the Association of Project Management, the Social Research Association and the Social Value UK. Since establishing 20 Degrees Consulting in 2013, Alun has undertaken a wide range of assignments. Examples of relevance to this framework proposal include: • Delivery of a training workshop to delegates from North China Institute of Science & Technology ‘Knowledge transfer between universities, government bodies, organisations and companies’ • Development of models to value three new technology service offerings developed by Jisc, the IT solutions organisation of UK universities and further education colleges • Strategic partnership development for Cardiff Metropolitan University • Development of a value proposition and route to market strategies for a department of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David • Study of international activity within Further Education Colleges in Wales on behalf of the British Council and Colegau Cymru • Evaluation of the ERDF supported Anaerobic Digestion Centre of Excellence at the University of South Wales • Development of a strategic partnership between Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership and eight universities drawn from across the UK for their expertise in advanced manufacturing, creative
