Manager: Graduate School of Economic and Management Sciences
Jaco Franken graduated with a PhD in molecular biology in 2009. He had the opportunity to cultivate his research skills during two subsequent postdoc terms, working in laboratories at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. During this period, he developed an interest in academic capacity building which guided him towards taking the position of Manager of the Graduate School of Economic and Management Sciences at Stellenbosch University in 2014. This provided a unique opportunity to gain experience in the challenges associated with research capacitation in South Africa. He has, since staring this position, finalised an additional Master’s degree in Science and Technology Studies, which expanded his research interests to include postgraduate education and research evaluation indicators. Currently, he is also enrolled as a part-time candidate in the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) programme at Stellenbosch University’s Business School and expects to finish by the end of 2018.
