Stephen (Steve) Konig is Director of Government and Public Affairs for Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC), located in Sacramento, CA. Steve works to advance MPC’s business interests and drive key policy issues with state and local elected officials and regulators in MPC’s West Region states (CA, WA, OR, UT, WY, ID, CO, TZ, AZ and NV). Steve also has responsibility for a team that covers all local and community affairs in Southern and Northern California. Steve and his team’s role are to enhance MPC’s reputation among state and local leaders, agencies and community groups to sustain and grow the business. For over twenty-five years, Steve has worked in the petroleum industry, most of it in the refining and marketing sector. Prior to his current role in government affairs, Steve held various maintenance and operations management, project management, discipline engineering and performance management roles. He has worked for ARCO, BP, Tesoro/Andeavor and MPC. Steve is a graduate of Cal Poly, Pomona with BS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Geological Sciences, and holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Southern California.
