The Honorable Luz Rivas was elected to represent the 39th Assembly District in the California State Assembly in June 2018. The founder of DIY Girls, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping girls become interested in math and science, Luz has helped set thousands of young women on the path towards economic empowerment, independence, and self-confidence. Prior, Luz also taught service learning for engineering undergraduates at USC, worked to increase diversity at Caltech, and worked on NASA funded projects aimed to increase access to STEM in community-based organizations. In 2016, Luz served as a commissioner on the City of Los Angeles Board of Public Works on the Bureau of Street Lighting and Engineering. Here she worked to raise the quality of life for residents in the City of Los Angeles and continued her gender equity work through various initiatives. Assemblymember Rivas is an engineer by trade, educator, and public servant who is dedicated to ensure that every Californian has the opportunity to learn, prosper and succeed. She strives to ensure equitable and adequate educational resources for all Californians and looks forward to bridging the gap in the 39th Assembly District to the State Capitol in Sacramento.
