Description
Aquaculture, when conducted within sustainable and environmentally friendly parameters, is the way forward to ensure long-term food security, reduced pressure on wild fisheries and an alternate source of income for Pacific Island communities. To enable aquaculture development in Fiji and the Pacific region, it is necessary that new species be considered. An endemic Fijian fish species, Mesopristes kneri, known locally as Reve, could be a suitable candidate for aquaculture. This research investigates the potential for Reve to be used in aquaculture through understanding its habitat, distribution, diet and reproductive seasonality in a natural river system.
