One Instrument Doesn't Fit All: Scaling Up Intercultural Learning & Assessment at a Land-Grant Institution

Thu Oct 19, 2017
10:45 AM - 12:00 PM
Tropic Room

Description

There is no “magic carpet ride” to Intercultural Competence; yet, the stakeholders we rely upon as advocates, instructor-mentors, & students continue to expect to be swept away by the overpowering “desert winds” of cross-cultural proximity. To assist attendees in addressing this culture-clash, we will mine lessons learned at a land-grant university seeking to embed evidence-based intercultural learning across the institution. Participants will consider a 3-year case study of assessment-driven institutional change, including research results on “What Our Faculty Hope They Are Teaching When They Lead Study Abroad” and “What Our Students Want to Learn.” This will be followed by action-planning & guided discussion in small group format.
