Increasingly, organizations and institutions seek to create more equitable and inclusive environments for their constituents. Those charged with the task of achieving this ambitious goal understand, or quickly discover, that creating the diverse and inclusive communities that our mission statements espouse requires Resilience, Strategy, Vision, and Persistence (RSVP). This presentation will offer participants insight into developing a sustainable diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy. Barbee Myers Oakes and Shayla Herndon-Edmunds of Wake Forest University, will share their experience as diversity and inclusion professionals allowing participants insight into the lessons they’ve learned; the best practices for strategic planning they’ve discovered; the barriers to success they have encountered; and the role of intercultural competence in helping them to shift organizational culture. Participants will have space to ask questions, reflect of their own experience, and receive resources for developing a diversity action plan.
