From emissions-gate at Volkswagen to sexual harassment at Fox News- the scandals continue. Why? Who is responsible? And what is our role as interculturalists? In this session, we turn to the board of directors and their part in scandal by looking at their cultural identity with a fresh perspective. Acknowledging that boards are often made up of very powerful individuals making serious operational and strategic decisions, we identify how the boardroom’s cultural identity directs a complex set of intellectual and emotional features that characterise its value systems, traditions and beliefs leading to its decisions. We will explore some very specific components of a board’s cultural identity that can be manipulated and developed to support ethical decisions. Participants will leave with a range of ideas and research to support boards they are associated with, working for, or are on personally.
