Cultural appropriation defined as the adoption or use of the elements of one culture by members of another culture ( Young, James O., 2010) often carries a negative connotation. When seeing cultural appropriation from a global and multicultural identity development perspective the role, use and definition of cultural appropriation becomes more multifaceted. For example, global families adopt, local cultural traditions, customs and values into their family identity as a means to understand their own identity and stay connected to people and cultures important to them. Similarly, individuals growing up among worlds integrate aspects of the different cultures they lived in into their identity to feel whole.
