Extension Associate in Wildland Fire
NC State University The Extension Associate will provide leadership for the development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programming and materials, with an emphasis on prescribed fire and fir... e science. In addition, the Extension Associate will build collaborative partnerships with a variety of stakeholders including county Extension personnel, landowners, state and federal agencies, non-government organizations, natural resource professionals and others to increase the visibility and reach of Extension Forestry. They will be responsible for developing and delivering educational programming to various audiences, including stakeholders from a variety of socio-demographic groups with varied backgrounds and knowledge of prescribed fire and fire science. The Extension Associate will work with researchers within the College of Natural Resources, across the university, and other agencies to interpret and disseminate current research findings consistent with the philosophy, policy, and overall educational objectives of North Carolina Cooperative Extension and NC State University. Educational information and program delivery will be in cooperation with the 101 Extension Centers throughout North Carolina, Extension Forestry team members, statewide partners and stakeholders, and should use a variety of delivery strategies appropriate for the target audience. Strategies could include workshops, short-courses, demonstration projects, webinars, podcasts, publications, fact-sheets, mass media, and social media. The Extension Associate will report to the Department Extension Leader in Extension Forestry.

The RA will contribute to an interdisciplinary research program of... a staff scientist and will manage projects that examine the effects of forest management practices, land cover and climate change on water use at the plant, stand, and watershed scales. Qualifications: A Master’s degree with specialization in any of the following areas: ecosystem ecology, plant physiological ecology, forest ecology, (eco)hydrology, or related discipline. Requirements include strong data management skills, experience programming in R, experience with GIS, and experience leading forest or plant community field data collection. Experience with data loggers and sensors (e.g. Campbell, Onset, etc.) and/or gas exchange measurements is desirable, but not required. See the full description at the website. Audubon South Carolina The Coordinator, Land and Facilities plays a vital role in advancing Audubon South Carolina’s (ASC) conservation mission and Flight Plan goals through the sustainable management o... f Audubon’s Francis Beidler Forest (Beidler)—an 18,000-acre bird and wildlife sanctuary and conservation action center in the heart of South Carolina’s low country. Under the supervision of the Sanctuary Manager, the Coordinator is responsible for implementing the sanctuary’s land, wildlife and timber resources management plans, with an emphasis on bird-friendly silviculture and the restoration of natural systems and the valuable ecosystem services they support. Under the direction of Beidler’s Center Manager, the Coordinator also implements regular maintenance, repair and improvement of center and sanctuary facilities and infrastructure and helps facilitate a safe, positive, and enriching experience for visitors and staff. While this is a predominantly field-oriented position, with most days spent working outdoors, the Coordinator also has exposure to—and opportunities for education, training, and involvement in—various other facets of center and sanctuary operations, including interpretation of Beidler’s natural and cultural history resources, events and programming, finance and development, and volunteer recruitment and management. Finally, the Coordinator will provide support as needed for habitat management and restoration efforts at other Audubon-owned or managed properties, including Audubon’s Silver Bluff Sanctuary in Aiken County and various private lands where ASC is engaged in outreach or education efforts. This full-time position is based at the Francis Beidler Forest Audubon Center and Sanctuary in Harleyville, SC, with occasional in-state travel required to other sanctuaries and properties. Job Specific Duties: Performs technical analysis for evaluation and planning resource management projects and coordinates the tracking of the statewide Resource Management budget and works with field staff to ensure that funds are spent in accordance with Division goals and objectives.
Identifies needs for natural resource restoration/management actions and develops processes to implement such actions. Efforts include onsite support to field staff in actions taken to implement identified restoration/management objectives.
