Post-doc at TU/e
Eindhoven University of Technology
We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence or linguistics to fill the post-doc position for the TACTICS project. Experience with NLP techniques, process mining and/or data mining, is considered as advantage. Good communication skills in English, both in speaking and in writing, are expected. Since the data to be analyzed in the project is only available in Dutch, the candidate should be ready to acquire some knowledge of Dutch.

The TACTICS project (Techniques for the Analysis of Client-Team InteraCtionS) is a joint project of Utrecht University (UU), Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Lunet Zorg, an organization that supports people with disabilities in their daily life. The project aims at the development of automated techniques to generate insights into the evolving states of clients receiving healthcare as well as into the way the actions of care teams influence clients.

The focus of this post-doc position is on the use of clients’ records in natural text to derive the client status and integrate it into further process mining steps. The post-doc will work together with project members at TU/e, UU and Lunet Zorg.

We offer:

a full-time temporary appointment for a period of 2 years

salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (a gross salary of €2.836 up to €4.474 per month depending on the working experience, extra holiday allowance and end-of-year bonus)

Several PhD and Postdoc positions in Process Mining @ PADS
RWTH Aachen University
The Process and Data Science (PADS) group is continuously looking for bright PhDs and Postdocs that want to do cutting-edge research in process mining in one of the leading research groups worldwide.

The scope of PADS includes all topics where discrete processes are analyzed, reengineered, and/or supported in a data-driven manner (www.pads.rwth-aachen.de). Process-centricity is combined with an array of Data Science techniques (machine learning, data mining, visualization, AI, etc.). The main focus is on Process Mining (including process discovery, conformance checking, performance analysis, predictive analytics, operational support, and process improvement). The ambition is to realize scientific breakthroughs, which will help organizations to turn event data into business and societal value.

RWTH Aachen University is one of the leading technical universities in Germany (typically ranked in top-3). It is one of the so-called Universities of Excellence, and the Department of Computer Science at RWTH is one of the strongest in Europe with over 30 professors.

Appointments are 100% and based on the federal wage agreement (Tarifvertrag der Länder or TV-L, see http://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/tv-l/). The salaries are very high compared to most other countries, but applicants are expected to be self-propelling, autonomous, and function as employees (rather than students).

See www.pads.rwth-aachen.de for more information on the group. Please send your application (including a motivation letter and full CV) via e-mail to applications@pads.rwth-aachen.de, and you will be asked to fill out a form. PhDs and Postdocs for the Projects «BridgingAI» or «AIStudyBuddy»
RWTH Aachen University
The PADS group was successful with both an individual and a collaborative application in the federal-state initiative to promote artificial intelligence in higher education (total 5.8 million euro). The projects combine Process Mining, AI, and Learning Analytics. The two projects are «BridgingAI» and «AIStudyBuddy». Both are coordinated by the RWTH Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI Center).

The AIStudyBuddy project (3.9 million euros) combines Learning Analytics and Process Mining. Besides RWTH, the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) and Bergische Universität Wuppertal (BUW) are working together toward using modern AI technologies to support the planning and reflection of individual courses of study.
The focus is on two target groups:
For students, the "StudyBuddy» provides informed and evidence-based planning of their studies over several semesters into the future. StudyBuddy enables advanced visualizations of study progress and provides action-oriented feedback. AI technologies are, for example, used to determine courses of studies that have led to successful completion of a degree in the past.
The second target group is the group of curriculum designers. With "BuddyAnalytics», they receive a tool that provides interactive visualizations and information for decision making. The goal is to help them improve competence-oriented curriculum development as well as advising students using data driven analytics. The project combines the AI paradigms of data-based (Process Mining) and rule-based AI (Answer Set Programming). Process mining discovers and analyzes actual study behavior using data from the Campus system, study management, and examination systems. It compares real courses of study with the intended ones.

ERC Advanced Grant - WhiteMech: White-box Self Programming Mechanisms - Giuseppe De Giacomo - PostDoc and PhD Positions
Sapienza Univ. Roma
WhiteMech aims at developing the science and the tools for mechanisms that are able to program themselves, automatically tailor their behavior so as to achieve desired goals, maintain themselves within safe boundaries in a changing environment, and follow regulations and conventions that evolve over time. Crucially, empowering mechanisms with self-programming carries significant risks and therefore we must be able to balance power with safety. For this reason WhiteMech intends to realize mechanisms that are white-box, that is, whose behavior is at any moment fully analyzable and comprehensible in human terms, and guarded by human oversight.

Driving Applications. WhiteMech wants to ground its scientific results upon three driving applications: smart manufacturing (Industry 4.0), smart spaces (IoT) and business process management systems (BPM).

Positions available as Senior Postdoc, Junior Postdocs and PhD students. Candidates must have strong mathematical and computational skills. Specific topics of interest include but are not limited to:
Knowledge Representation
Planning
Autonomous Agents
Reinforcement Learning
Logics in AI
Temporal Logics
Automata
Synthesis
Logics and Games
Monitoring and Verification
Data-aware processes
Service Composition and Business Process Management
Interest in applications in Smart Spaces (IoT) and Smart Manufacturing

All the research activities will be carried out at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" (the largest university in Rome). Salaries vary depending on experience and are commensurate to international standards. Moreover generous funds for traveling and visiting scholars are available for the entire project team.

Perspective candidates are invited to talk to me or to Massimo Mecella during BPM 2021 conference, or to write an expression of interest, including a CV and the name of two references to degiacomo@diag.uniroma1.it.

Reserach fellow in process mining - pharma and food manufacturing
The University of Melbourne
Digitisation and AI will transform the manufacture of medicine and food. Victoria needs to develop skills and tools to realise the benefits of this transformation.

The University of Melbourne has partnered with industry to develop a program to transform food and pharma manufacturing, with new tools and platforms, custom education and a more digitally skilled workforce. Engineers, scientists and computing specialists will work with the pharma and food industries in a new research centre in the Parkville Biomedical Precinct to build Australian advanced manufacturing capabilities. The lead industry partner is CSL and positions will be co-located at the University’s Parkville campus as well as the CSL Parkville premises.

Manufacturing will become faster and smarter through the centre’s translational research program, which will examine process modelling, simulation, optimisation and the best use of process data. Our new centre will position Victoria as a globally competitive, high-value, low-volume advanced manufacturing centre, with flow-on benefits for priority sectors.

The successful applicant will review current approaches to visualization of bioprocessing data; this review will occur both in situ at CSL and in the literature in general and will identify the shortcomings of current approaches. They will collate relevant data sets and using process mining techniques, construct a framework of process-centred visualisation tools appropriate for highly complex and multi-dimensional data. Advanced visualisations will be created to facilitate data-driven decision making by non-data scientists. They will then assess the next steps needed to develop this approach for translation and uptake into industry. This role will also work with other project colleagues to provide digital skills into the other work packages of this project, and evaluate the potential to extend these tools to other processes of relevance to the Victorian food or biotech manufacturing industry.
