The candidate will join a progressive and growing child psychiatry division. The overall philosophy of this academic division is the provision of family centered care to each patient/family dyad seen in our inpatient and outpatient settings, in conjunction with our highly-regarded and well-established postgraduate training program.

The candidate’s clinical responsibility will rotate among three different settings all located in the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The specific balance of time between settings has room for personalization. Our outpatient child psychiatry setting provides the opportunity to work with patients independently or with a resident physician, in specialty or general patient populations. Attending physicians also rotate as one of two child psychiatrists on inpatient child and adolescent unit. The candidate will be a team leader of an inpatient multidisciplinary team that includes child and adolescent psychiatry fellows, general psychiatry residents, medical students, nurses, social workers, psychologists, educational consultants, and rehab therapists and cares for a stimulating and diverse patient population. This team leader would be responsible for approximately 8 inpatients. The last setting consists of providing child psychiatry consult coverage to the newly opened University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

All members of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry faculty group share weekend and holiday coverage of the inpatient/consult service in conjunction with a postgraduate trainee (weekend coverage occurs approximately 5 weekends per year).
Although the candidate will work in all of these areas, we will work closely with the candidate to optimize his/her time to work in any preferred area of interest. We will also aid the candidate, if so desired, to develop a specialty outpatient clinic or join existing specialty clinics which currently include assessment and treatment of patients with Tourette syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, young adults, and mood disorders.

This position involves teaching and mentoring Child and Adolescent Psychiatry residents, General Psychiatry residents, and medical students, as well as time to pursue academic interests.
