Research engineer in mixed signal ASIC design for injectable neuroprosthetics

In the context of a research project funded by an ERC Consolidator Grant, the Biomedical Electronics Research Group (BERG) of Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona is seeking experienced candidates to carry out research on the design of integrated circuits intended to be imbedded within injectable implants. 

We want to develop and demonstrate wireless networks of implants capable of stimulating the muscles and recording their activity. Potentially, among other fields of application, this technology will be used to restore motor functions in patients who suffer from paralysis. The implants will look like short pieces of flexible thread and will be injectable. These features will be possible because the power supply methods used so far in active implants (e.g. batteries and inductive coupling) will be replaced by an innovative power transfer method.

Now we are seeking for a research engineer to collaborate in the design of the integrated circuits that will be imbedded within those implants.

Post-doctoral position in point-of-care (POC) technology development

We are seeking a Post-doctoral Scientist to join an interdisciplinary team working on a range of projects to develop advanced diagnostic/detection technologies for point-of-care applications.
Several ongoing and highly successful projects (funded through the National Science Foundation and the National Cancer Institute) toward the development of a biomarker panel for early detection of infectious disease biomarkers, alcohol, and drug metabolites in whole blood and sweat.
The work requires expertise in microfluidics as well as point-of-need technologies, wet-bench research, bio-instrumentation (fluorescence and absorbance-based detection technologies) and/or molecular diagnostics, wearable electronics, and system integration.
Candidates should have be a strong written and oral communication skills and be an individual contributor within a multidisciplinary and international research team comprising engineers, biologists, chemists, programmers, immunologists, biochemists, biostatisticians, NGOs, gynecologists, and machine learning experts. Candidates will work on specific tasks within the framework of a milestone driven research project.
Direct experience with microfluidic design and fabrication, electronic circuit design, and layout, some experience employing and deploying technology in a realistic application e.g. in clinical or environmental samples is desired.
