Academic Success Counselor
Glenville State College This is a benefit eligible, full-time, 12 month position. The Academic Success Center (ASC) Counselor, reporting to the ASC Director, will assist with a variety of initiatives and... practices that target and promote academic success, as well as retention of all students, with an emphasis on Veteran Support Services.
The ASC Counselor will be expected to independently control and complete all Veteran Support Services program coordination and requirements, including VA Certifications and related events. The ASC Counselor will assist with the development and implementation of current and new student services that foster positive academic growth and development, while improving student retention.
The ASC Counselor will play a vital role with student advising and academic counseling. Student Advising and Academic Counseling includes but is not limited to: student registration, new student programs (GSC Orientation & GSC 100), financial aid counseling, academic intervention and recovery, academic planning/degree mapping, course withdraws, career planning, referral/scheduling tutoring/study hall sessions or other appropriate services, etc.
The ASC Counselor will be expected to work directly and holistically with first year students, at-risk students, and Veteran/Veteran dependents with the goal of fostering student success and perseverance. The ASC Counselor will establish and maintain liaisons with faculty, staff, and community members to ensure transparency, collaboration, and student success/retention.
The ASC Counselor will coordinate, maintain, and update various data records/reports and effectively communicate results within the Academic Success Center and campus community as directed.

Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree required in liberal arts discipline, counseling or related field. Two years of professional workplace experience in higher education, preferably in academic advising. Master’s degree and progressive levels of workplace responsibility preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of student development at a liberal arts & sciences college. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. Familiarity of widely-used software is required; experience using Banner and DegreeWorks is preferred. Must be well versed in the basic principles and theories of college student development and higher education administration at undergraduate liberal arts and sciences institutions. Knowledge of FERPA regulations required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Must have an ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents.
