STEM Department Chair

The Jewish Leadership Academy is a world-class Jewish Middle and Upper School dedicated to developing the skills, curiosity, and potential of Miami’s most ambitious students for a life of purpose, commitment, and service.
The STEM Department Chair is a member of the educational leadership team responsible for all aspects of the JLA’s STEM program including the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics for grades 6 through 12. This position will directly supervise all the STEM department faculty. It is expected that the STEM Department Chair will teach four classes in addition to their leadership responsibilities. The STEM Department Chair will report directly to the Associate Head of School for Middle School and the Associate Head of School for Upper School. Full-time employment for the STEM Department Chair begins July, 2022 with a planning year prior to the school’s opening. During the planning year(s), the STEM Department Chair will oversee the development of the school’s STEM program and work with the Associate Heads of the Middle and Upper Schools.
The STEM Department Chair must have a minimum of 7 years of science, mathematics, or STEM teaching experience at the middle/upper school level and 3 years of leadership experience. He/She must have an advanced degree in a related field, as well as a strong foundation in classroom pedagogy and curriculum development. Experience working with gifted and talented students is an asset.
Compensation for the STEM Department Chair is $100,000.

• Must have a four-year degree in education and in the area to be taught. Master’s in education preferred.
• Experience teaching AP Statistics as well as state certification in 6-12 Mathematics is a plus, but not required.
• Independent school experience is preferred.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in physics or related discipline required. Prior teaching experience, a Master’s degree, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to extracurricular programming are preferred.
