North Carolina Sea Grant North Carolina Sea Grant, a statewide program focused on research, education, and outreach for and with coastal communities, is seeking a Coastal Community Health Extension Intern... to:
Plan a framework for coastal community health extension programming through feedback, partnerships, and understanding community health resilience needs and priorities.
Collaborate with federal, state, and community partners to identify actionable research questions, agency needs, and related tools and funding opportunities that address community health needs.
Assist in the development of demonstration educational and communication programming and products, messages, tools, and the identification of appropriate communication pathways for disseminating public health needs and community risk information for stakeholders.
The minimum education for this position is a completed bachelor’s degree and current full or part time enrollment in a graduate school in North Carolina. The internship can be remote and on a flexible schedule. Occasional travel to the Sea Grant offices at NC State University and coastal locations required. Travel reimbursement for field visits is available.
The work will align with NC Sea Grant’s vision for diversity equality, inclusion, justice, and accessibility. Examples of qualities we may look for in prospective students include experience in/with underserved and under-represented communities. Preferred fields of graduate study include public health, public/environmental policy, public administration, epidemiology, environmental health services, health policy and management, health equity and social justice or related field. Candidates need strong writing and critical thinking skills, a demonstrated interest in stakeholder engagement (e.g., process agenda development, leading meetings) and qualitative/quantitative study skills.
