A Director of Environmental Health plans, supervises, implements and guides enforcement of Environmental Health programs for the Health Department, ensuring activities are conducted in timely compliance with NYS and local code requirements. Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Health Director, or designee, with considerable latitude and independence in performance of his/her duties in environmental health planning, program analysis and management. The Director of Environmental Health is responsible for training and supervising subordinate personnel, as well as keeping records and ensuring the Environmental Health Division operates in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and with County and departmental policies and procedures. The Director of Environmental Health position is distinguished from the Public Health Sanitarian by supervisory responsibilities. However, the incumbent may also perform any of the duties of a Public Health Sanitarian, particularly in more difficult or complex cases, and to keep skills current. Does related work as required.
