NYC Department of Parks and Recreation
Waterfront Access And Community Engagement Consultant (Part-Time)
Waterfront Alliance
The Waterfront Access and Community Engagement Consultant will support a Waterfront Alliance research and advocacy grant funded project to open unused New York City owned sites for waterfront recreation and access. Through research and analysis; prioritization; and community-led implementation, this project will provide solutions to long-standing, seemingly permanent impediments to access and will help break down physical and social barriers on City owned properties.

The project will entail four main phases over the course of 18 months (1) collecting, synthesizing, and analyzing open source geographic datasets related to vacant waterfront lots; (2) creating criteria to prioritize geographies with the best potential and highest need for public access; (3) engaging nonprofit partners, community organizations and community members in determining prospects for funding and opening waterfront sites for community access, and (4) working alongside Waterfront Alliance team in community engagement.

This project will provide the strongest pathway possible for New York City to open its waterfront lands to the communities that need them the most.
