Farm Technician
Global Algae Innovations Job Summary: Performs technician-level workflow activities, supporting facility modifications, light fabrication and assembly, equipment installation, daily farming operations,... laboratory equipment operation and maintenance, and assisting with experimental data collection. Essential Functions: Performs daily assigned tasks per the operating supervisor. Reads diagrams, process sheets, and assembly and schematic drawings. Assists in fabrication, assembly, and installation of basic experimental and commercial equipment. Uses and maintains farm equipment. Cleans outdoor ponds, tanks, and sumps as needed. Uses and maintains lab equipment. Helps conduct experiments and tests; records relevant data. Provides inputs to reports as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Physical Demands: High school diploma or equivalent At least two years related work experience desired Experience with common hand tools Able to perform complex assignments with little or no direction Willing to work in or near unusual environments such as pressurized air, high voltage, microwave energy, heat, cryogens, water ponds, high places, and heavy objects Knowledge of computer operations and applications pertinent to the field desired Must be able to remain in a stationary position and use a computer or equipment Must be able to move 50 pounds at one time; multiple times throughout the workday Must be able to work outdoors most of the day in outdoor weather conditions, traverse algae farm, ascend/descend ladders, and remain in a stationary position Positions self at ground level to perform tasks such as equipment maintenance and sample collection Must be able to communicate via phone, video conference, and email with co-workers Must be able to work weekend shifts and extended hours as required Must have ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment Must be able to maintain confidentiality

Documents findings, communicates results to scientific staff and makes technical presentations as required. Provides direction to design or technical staff and may provide direction to less experienced professional staff.

This consists of operating complex systems that include: Algal species isolation and development, algal inoculum growth, algal production, media, carbon dioxide, harvesting and dewatering, drying, and extraction Operation of the biological and analytical laboratories Supports operation of scientific systems by evaluating and interpreting needs and problems and develops effective approaches to resolving those issues Troubleshoots, analyzes, and repairs systems in assigned area by utilizing standard scientific principles Provides documentation and makes technical presentations as required, and may assist in responding to proposals for new or the expansion of existing business opportunities Directs the activities of designers, technicians and may direct the activities of less experienced professional staff May represent the organization in providing solutions to technical issues associated with specific projects Fosters an environment of safety, camaraderie, and integrity in all aspects of work

Other duties include media preparation, glassware cleaning, lab maintenance, sample preparation, instrumentation operation, and data capture.
Essential Functions: Performs daily assigned tasks per the operating supervisor Feeds algae ponds, performs pond transfers and harvesting Reads diagrams, process sheets, and assembly and schematic drawings Assists in fabrication, assembly, and installation of equipment Uses and maintains farm equipment; cleans outdoor ponds, tanks, and sumps as needed Uses and maintains lab equipment, such as UV-Vis spectrophotometers, gravimetric instruments, and elemental analyzers Helps conduct experiments and tests; records relevant data Records information on appropriate production records, logs and other report forms; provides inputs to reports as required Assists in ensuring that there are adequate stocks of media, reagents, and consumables in the lab and fully communicates low stock levels Prepares microbiological media and samples that are required for use in the laboratory Conducts research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols Washes glassware and prepares materials before and after autoclaving. Performs all runs on autoclave. Preforms decontamination and disposal of laboratory waste Fosters an environment of safety, camaraderie, and integrity in all aspects of work
