Water Quality Technician
Dickinson College - Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring
The purpose of the Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring’s Water Quality Technician is three-fold:
1) Manage ALLARM’s laboratory (troubleshooting equipment and testing new techniques), run a statewide quality assurance/quality control lab (chemical, physical indicators), ensure compliance with our Quality Assurance Project Plan, and maintain ALLARM’s volunteer equipment loan program.
2) Provide technical assistance to communities interested in stream monitoring and restoration assessment; this requires a strong background in aquatic and watershed sciences.
3) Teach Dickinson College students to work in ALLARM’s laboratory, conduct stream monitoring, and effectively do science communication, data management, and data visualization.

IT Administration – GIS Contractor Support

We are seeking a team-oriented person to join Skeo on a full-time basis, with full-time options ranging from 30 to 40 hours per week, with a heavy emphasis on IT and GIS Administrative support. Skeo expects some on the job learning will need to take place. Location is specific to Charlottesville, Virginia. Elements of this work will include:

- Oversee contractors providing IT and GIS support to Skeo, including managing budgets, communicating areas of improvement, making recommendations about future contracting needs, and onboarding and overseeing new contractors as needed.
- Assess, improve and maintain Skeo’s current hardware and software needs to meet IT requirements, which includes a rapidly growing GIS team and body of work. Many systems are already in place.
- Work closely with contractors, project managers and technical staff to identify IT and GIS requirements, technical issues, and training needs.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, develop and implement GIS systems to meet the organization’s mapping and end-user service objectives.
- Administer Skeo’s ArcGIS Enterprise environment.
- Administer Skeo’s IT environment, which includes administration of Microsoft 365 tenant that utilizes SharePoint Online.

While the position is expected to require 40 hours a week, there are times where it may be necessary to work more than 40 hours per week under tight deadlines.

Location is flexible, but reliable internet connection and being within two hours of an airport are required. This position will entail a willingness to support a wide range of technical work, including: the review, synthesis and presentation of technical materials to communities; analysis of technical documents related to contaminated waste sites; and supporting the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency by performing technical research and writing of Superfund Five-Year Reviews and other technical materials related to health and environmental impacts associated with hazardous waste. Prospective hires must be willing to periodically travel 3-6 days per month at various locations throughout the U.S. Ideal hires would be comfortable presenting technical information to a wide array of audiences in a virtual or in-person setting. Paid Intern – Research, Writing and GIS

Skeo seeks to provide up to two intern job opportunities for motivated, energetic and earnest person(s) with an undergraduate degree or pursing an undergraduate degree to join their team for a six-month internship. Selected interns will be paid at the rate of $25 per hour. All interested candidates are eligible for consideration for a full-time position, pending job availability, after the six-month internship. Early hires are encouraged to take on day to day aspect of managing prospects, such as providing tasking, communicating between staff supporting projects and managers overseeing projects, and ensuring work is done on time and on budget.

Candidates should demonstrate they are detail-oriented, highly responsive and capable of supporting several projects at one time. Ideal candidates will have taken GIS-related courses or performed significant GIS-related tasks or have demonstrable expertise or skills related to researching and entering data. Interns should be receptive to receiving training that enables them to perform work required for this position. Interns will be asked to support other Skeo work in addition to GIS tasks. Having or pursuing knowledge in environmental sciences, land-use planning or other relevant fields, and exhibiting strong writing and research skills are important to supporting the needs of the organization. Skeo has a simple organizational structure, and interns may work with several different managers to develop their skill sets.
