Sustainability Specialist

Forest Stewardship Specialist

The Forest Stewardship Specialist works within the program goals and objectives set forth by the state Forest Stewardship Program (FSP) and the FSP Manager. The Forest Stewardship Specialist provides field services and support statewide to private forest landowners and partner agency staff to ensure that our planted and native forests will be healthier, more diverse, and more valuable places for future North Dakotans than they are today. Duties include both office and field responsibilities and will require coordination, policy interpretation and individual initiative to resolve issues as they arise. Specific areas of technical assistance will include the sustainable management of windbreaks and other conservation tree plantings as well as native upland and riparian forests.

Community Forestry Specialist

The Community Forestry Specialist works within the program goals and objectives set forth by the state Community Forestry (CF) Program and the CF Program Manager. The CF Specialist provides technical community forestry assistance and support statewide, but primarily in eastern North Dakota, to communities, local units of government, partner agency staff, and others. Responsibilities include conducting and assisting with community tree inventories, providing sound CF management advice and plans, assisting with forest health surveys, assisting communities with project planning and grant applications, identifying tree pest issues, and assisting with tree care ordinances. The CF Specialist engages with local groups, individuals, and agency partners to encourage and implement sustainable practices which improve community forests, thereby enhancing the quality of life for generations of North Dakotans.

Graphic Design and Publications Specialist

The Graphic Design and Publications Specialist is responsible for developing, designing and creating graphics and publications for the Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS) that educate and inform diverse audiences about sound forest management, wildfire mitigation and the importance of trees and forests. Under the direction of the Communications Manager, this position meets the day-to-day graphic design needs of the agency and oversees the development, layout and distribution of publications. The Graphic Design and Publications Specialist manages use of the CSFS logo and helps to maintain the integrity of the CSFS brand. Fire Management Specialist

The Nebraska Forest Service (NFS) provides technical and financial assistance to clients across Nebraska emphasizing rural forestry, community forestry, forest fuels reduction, forest health, forest products utilization and fire protection. Our mission is to enrich the lives of Nebraskan’s by protecting, restoring and utilizing Nebraska’s tree and forest resources.
NFS is seeking enthusiastic, qualified applicants to join our team of dedicated staff working towards improving preparedness and response capabilities of Nebraska’s wildland fire first responders. Providing direct training and incident support assistance, the Fire Management Specialist will play a key role in protecting life and property from wildfire in southwest Nebraska.
This position will lead NWCG wildland fire training within their region; serve as a priority Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) base manager for the McCook SEAT base, while also providing relief and assistance for other SEAT bases around the state. The employee will be available to assist with local, state, and national wildland fire response, based on qualifications and availability. Position requires attaining SEAT base manager NWCG qualifications within 2 years of hire, during which time the position and NFS will prioritize completing that qualification. Required to complete the NWCG work capacity test. Position located in McCook, NE.
