Family Support Specialist
Children's Mercy
Community Programs MSWs (Family Support Specialists) provide home-based family support to pregnant and postpartum women and their families enrolled in the TIES Program (Team for Infants Exposed to Substance use). Specialists partner with families to develop individualized, trauma-informed, culturally appropriate services to promote child development, social and emotional well-being and healthier family functioning. Services will include in-home support for substance use treatment, child development education and parenting support, connection to health and behavioral health services, crisis intervention and supportive counseling, and coordination of services with multiple community agencies. Family Support Specialists work jointly with Patient Resource Specialists to provide comprehensive support to families.

The TIES (Team for Infants Exposed to Substance use) Program is an intensive, home-based model to work with pregnant and postpartum women and their families affected by maternal substance use. The TIES Program Supervisor is responsible for administrative, clinical, and reflective supervision of all TIES clinical staff. In addition, the Supervisor is an integral part of the TIES and Community Programs management teams and consistently works to identify, plan and implement strategies to enhance services to families.
