This role is a challenging and rewarding full-time position with an office located in AWUM’s emergency shelter, House of Peace. Combining client-centered and culturally responsive lawyering with our holistic approach to client empowerment and advocacy, we seek a full-time staff attorney to provide much-needed support around family law matters, including orders of protection, custody, visitation, child support, and divorces. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate, dedicated, team-oriented, and goal-oriented advocate to take a lead role in providing our family law services.
Essential Functions:
Screen and provide direct representation, brief services, referrals, and consultations for orders of protection, custody, visitation, child support, and uncontested divorces.
Complete legal research, prepare petitions, and filings for Family and Supreme Courts. Provide consultations, brief services, and referrals on family law issues.
Advise advocates and other staff and volunteers about how to support survivors on family law matters during weekly counselor hour, as needed.

This position works with survivors of gender-based violen... ce up to twenty-four years old. This advocate provides supportive counseling, case management and advocacy support to survivors in this age group and their families. They also develop, coordinate, and facilitate group services geared towards children & youth.
This role’s effectiveness is tied to having a collaborative spirit and prioritizing strong teamwork. This includes working together with their assigned community-based team as well as with other staff across Client Service, to carry out various projects and events that meets and elevates the voices of the survivors we work alongside. The following are some key responsibilities of the Children & Youth Advocate:
• Provide immediate crisis intervention and safety planning via telephone for Family Violence/Stalking/Dating Violence victims. • Perform the intake... process and assess potential clients’ legal needs following NFS legal assistance guidelines and assign cases to attorneys accordingly. • Coordinate with attorneys any assistance needed for representing clients for TPO hearings and accompany clients to TPO hearing if needed. • Assist attorneys and clients in gathering evidence for TPO proceedings. • Assist clients in completing TPO Petition if needed or refer clients to the appropriate legal advocacy office in the counties served by NFS. • Assist clients in completing the Domestic-Relations-Financial-Affidavit (DRFA). • Track progress of legal case from initiation to completion and close files when deemed appropriate by legal staff. • Make referrals on behalf of clients to partner agencies for services. • Request exit survey from clients and upload it to the database. • Share Client Handbook with clients and answer questions. • Represent agency at conferences and community domestic violence task force meetings, including outreach opportunities. • Share responsibilities for keeping the office orderly and clean. • Work supportively and cooperatively with staff. • Perform any additional duties that may be deemed reasonable and necessary by the Executive Director or administrative office.
Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation:
