The Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) is looking for an Assistant Planner, Planner and Senior Planner to help update and adapt Metro Vision, DRCOG’s long range plan for growth and development of the region. DRCOG adopted the first Metro Vision plan in 1997, building on a legacy of regional planning that dates to 1955. Regional planning at DRCOG has long connected growth, transportation, and sustainability, but now has a new focus area of housing with completion of a Regional Housing Needs Assessment and work soon underway on a Regional Housing Strategy.
DRCOG works to help local governments and other planning partners contribute to Metro Vision outcomes and objectives through different pathways and at different speeds for collective impact. Qualifications: Preparation through both education and experience will determine the best qualified applicant. Colorado Department of Local Affairs The Community Development Office (CDO) in the Department of Local Affairs’ Division of Local Government is building a brand new team of passionate planners, administrators, and an... alysts to implement new laws passed in the 2024 legislative session, including SB24-174 Sustainable Affordable Housing, HB24-1313 Transit Oriented Communities, HB24-1152 Accessory Dwelling Units, HB24-1304 Minimum Parking Requirements. CDO is developing three new grant programs, systems to track and analyze data on planning for housing and transit, and the capacity to more effectively support local governments in their planning for affordable housing and strategic growth goals. CDO will be hiring 14 new staff members to serve as a highly collaborative team to implement the land use and housing laws described on our website.
CDO will create two main new teams, including: (1) a Technical Assistance Unit dedicated to providing information, data and analysis, and assistance to help local governments successfully comply with the new laws, and (2) a Planning Grants Unit to develop and administer three new grant programs (ADUs, housing planning, and transit oriented community infrastructure). Additionally, we’ll be hiring a Land Use Policy Advisor to focus on policy and legislation (Policy Advisor IV), a Planning Coordinator to assist with internal processes like procurement and developing the online platform with OIT (Administrator III), and a Land Use Planner (CED III) that will wear many hats and focus on supporting the communications, engagement, and promotion work.
