Chuck Amsler and Stacy Krueger-Hadfield are seeking a postdoctoral scholar for up to 24 months funded by a NSF award from the Antarctic Organisms and Ecosystems program. The 1 March start date is somewhat flexible. The position will be based in the Amsler lab at UAB but, after a brief stay there for UAB onboarding, the scholar will spend the first 3 to 5 months in the Algal Evolutionary Ecology lab at VIMS ESL. Housing at VIMS ESL will be provided by the NSF award.
Drs. Amsler and Krueger-Hadfield are attending the PSA-ISOP-ISEP meeting. Potential candidates are encouraged to seek them out to discuss the position.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities 1. Generate single gene barcoding data for >30 species of macroalgae found along the Western Antarctic Peninsula 2. Genotype 5 focal species to describe the reproductive system 3. Develop expertise in macroalgal evolutionary ecology, contributing new knowledge and ideas 4. Develop and apply bioinformatic tools and approaches to characterize reproductive system variation and patterns of historical and contemporary gene flow 5. Contribute to written and oral communication 6. Build and maintain databases 7. Participate in student mentoring
Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in coastal or marine sciences or similar field, with a background in population genetics.

We are part of Academia Sinica (Taiwanese academy of sciences). The working language is English. Knowledge in Mandarin or other Taiwanese languages is not required. Applicants should have research experience in genomics, bioinformatics, evolutionary biology, molecular cell biology or marine microbial ecology.
