ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide Initial Assessment services to referred children and families suspected of child abuse and/or neglect.

Complete Initial Assessments by using the Trauma-Informed framework. Services provided are family focused towards assisting in community resource connections and preventing placement of children out of their natural home and community setting.

Make assessments for safety and risk of children within their home setting.

Provide support services to help alleviate situational family stress that contributes to child abuse and neglect situations.

Coordinate and provide court services resulting from the initial assessment and treatment planning.

Work closely with community agencies to coordinate the provision of services and resources such as AODA, mental health, and school.

Work jointly with law enforcement, Juvenile Court, Corporation Counsel, and District Attorney’s Office.

Participate in after hours, on-call rotation.

Attend staff meetings and trainings as directed.

The Access role performs advanced administrative support function within the Children and Families Division by taking and creating reports, via phone or in person, of child abuse and neglect to be assigned and assessed.

The Community Response role provides voluntary outreach and support to families who have identified service needs, show a desire to engage in services, and who have a screened out access report for child abuse or neglect or do not require formal ongoing engagement through the court process. Priority is given to cases that involve children under the age of five. The position requires an individual who is able to identify strengths and protective factors in families and build upon family goals through engagement and compassionate service.

The Targeted Safety Support Services role provides support and in home safety services for families involved with Child Protective Services. In home safety services are supportive services for families to create a safer home environment for children, develop safe parenting practices/strategies, strengthen family relations, and identify and connect families to community resources. This particular position will work to develop, implement and monitor protective plans and/or safety plans, typically in conjunction with the CPS case manager, to ensure that services that control for the family’s specific identified danger threats are identified/implemented. The goal of Targeted Safety Support Services is to prevent child removal from home and/or to assist in the family reunification process for families with children who have been placed in out of home care.
